by Sandi Shumake, Massage Therapist
Everyone feels stressed
at one time or another. The problems of balancing career,
family and social obligations can cause excessive tension
that can affect your physical and mental health.
A little bit of stress
can be a good thing – it can be challenging and motivating.
But when stress starts to sap your energy instead of
increasing it, it needs to be dealt with. Taking control of
your stress is a very powerful and positive step toward good
health and well-being.
To start managing your
stress by reducing the negative effects:
¨ Relax –
It’s easier said than done. But practicing relaxation
techniques such as yoga and
meditation can help rid your mind and body of
tension that can build up because of stress.
¨ Exercise –
Regular workouts and walks can
help the body to fight off stress and boost your
attitude.
¨ Eat healthy
– Eat a well-balanced diet. It will
boost your immune system, enabling you to fight
off illness that can be a byproduct of too much
stress.
¨ Be Positive
– Whenever you feel negative
thoughts begin to creep in, fight them off. Learn
to see events and challenges as a chance for new
and refreshing opportunities and growth.
