Pamela J. Compart, M.D.
Dr. Compart is a developmental
pediatrician who treats children with a variety of
behavioral and developmental disorders. She has a special
interest in treating children with autism spectrum
disorders. She performs comprehensive assessments and
provides ongoing treatment, combining both traditional and
complementary medicine approaches in treating these
disorders.
“I try to bring to each patient the
best of all that I have learned, whether from a traditional
or complementary medicine perspective. Part of each
evaluation includes two fundamental questions:
-
Is this
child’s brain getting all that it needs to function
optimally? and
-
Is there something getting to this child’s
brain that is having a negative impact on its functioning?
These simple questions can lead to a variety of very elegant
treatment interventions (therapy, diet changes, nutritional
supplements, etc.) which often result in significant
improvement in brain functioning. I believe that the
children I see have wonderful gifts hidden within their
challenges and that my role is to help bring these gifts to
light. My goal is to help children reach their potential
and have the best quality of life possible. This is
achieved by a true partnership with parents whose input is
essential and valued.”
Dr. Compart received her medical degree
from Case Western Reserve University. She completed a
pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center in
Washington, D.C. and fellowship training in behavioral and
developmental pediatrics at the University of Maryland
School of Medicine. After practicing in a variety of
hospital and outpatient settings, she founded HeartLight
Healing Arts in November 2001, bringing together like-minded
and “like-hearted” practitioners to work in a truly
integrated and caring environment.

Cynthia Wilcox, Ph.D. -
Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Wilcox is a psychologist
specialized in working with children, adolescents, and
families. She provides individual and family therapy and
works in a variety of group formats. Dr. Wilcox also
conducts comprehensive psychological and psycho-educational
assessments for children and adults. She has more than 10
years of experience treating children with ADHD, anxiety,
depression, behavioral and regulatory disorders, and
developmental disorders.
Consistent with the philosophy of the practitioners at
HeartLight, Dr. Wilcox understands that the emotional,
cognitive, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of well
being are interrelated.
At HeartLight, we work together in a
truly collaborative way, developing programs and consulting
regularly about the care of patients. We believe that
children thrive -- they are happier, more regulated, and
more available for learning and for relationships -- when
they have a healthy, balanced body, good nutrition, adequate
sleep, positive self-esteem, secure attachment
relationships, and appropriate limits and structure in their
world. Treatment, therefore, takes into consideration the
child’s needs in all of these areas, and provides direction
and support for the family to achieve those goals. The
specific needs of each child and each family are unique, and
Dr. Wilcox works with parents to address the specific needs
of their child.
The HeartLight community of practitioners provides access
to a rich array of resources, and Dr. Wilcox consults and
collaborates with other practitioners to provide families
with a holistic program of care. Collaborating with
teachers and other important people in the life of the child
and family is also an important part of her treatment
philosophy.
Assessment
In addition to psychotherapy, Dr.
Wilcox conducts comprehensive psychological and
psycho-educational evaluations for children and adults.
Psychological and neuropsychological tests are tools that
are useful for diagnostic clarification and for identifying
individual strengths and weaknesses in cognitive
functioning, including attention problems and learning
disabilities.
Dr. Wilcox uses the process approach to
testing. This approach emphasizes careful observation of
how a person performs a task. Observational information is
equally important as the test scores in formulating the
results and recommendations. Session length is limited to
ensure that the best performance is obtained and the results
are valid.
Assessment reports include detailed
test results as well as specific recommendations for school
and home. A feedback session helps parents to thoroughly
understand their child’s individual strengths and
weaknesses, and how best to address those issues at home and
at school. Dr. Wilcox is available to consult with teachers
or attend educational meetings as needed.
Maria Petrucci,
D.C. - Chiropractor
Dr. Petrucci uses chiropractic
adjustments and CranioSacral Therapy to free up the nervous
system and improve communication between the brain and the
rest of the body. She also uses nutrition, kinesiology,
massage, and other natural healing methods with her
patients. The combination of these methods can lead to
improved posture, reduced stress, increased energy, relief
of pain and discomfort, and improved functioning of the
entire body. Dr. Petrucci also encourages patients to take
responsibility for their own health by drinking plenty of
water, eating healthy food, taking nutritional supplements,
relaxing, exercising, and keeping an open, positive outlook.
“I believe
that we have an amazing capacity within ourselves to heal
and grow. Mind, body, and soul are connected: a change in
one affects the others. What we think and feel, what we put
into our bodies and how we hold and move them determine how
healthy we are. With healthy daily habits and natural
healing methods, we can bring ourselves back to our natural
state of health and well being.”
Dr. Petrucci received her B.A. in
psychology at Western Maryland College in 1974 and her
Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree at the Los Angeles
College of Chiropractic in 1983. She also completed a four
year program in metaphysics and spirituality at the
Baltimore Spiritual Science Center in 1989.

Mary
M. Hornish - Energy Medicine
Practitioner
Mary Hornish is an energy medicine
practitioner who draws upon her Reiki training,
highly-developed intuitive guidance, and experience gained
while apprenticing with a holistic nurse practitioner/energy
healer to utilize and direct life-force energy in a
therapeutic, client-directed manner for both adults and
children. She assesses, balances, harmonizes, and enhances
an individual’s energy to promote optimal physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual health. She uses intuitive
guidance to connect deeply into a client’s energy field to
identify “frozen energy” or energy imbalances which may
represent physical, mental, or emotional pain or blocks
creating dysfunction. In addition, she employs many
complementary vibrational modalities such as flower
essences, essential oils, color and sound therapy,
homeopathy, and guided meditation.
“I believe we
are all spiritual beings who have chosen to experience life
in a physical universe. We are a latticework of interacting,
multidimensional energies composing mind, body and soul. If
these energy systems become imbalanced, there may be
resulting pathological symptoms that manifest on the
physical/emotional/mental/spiritual planes. I combine
subtle energy healing, therapeutic touch and rebalancing
techniques with the use of intuitive guidance. Working from
the mind of the heart, I connect with universal life-force
energy to create a strong energy field and a healing space
to allow the body/mind to accelerate its innate healing
abilities. Intuitive guidance helps clients to re-establish
their connection to Creator/Source/God and to identify core
issues and energy blocks, which when released and resolved,
result in a greater healing potential. It is my desire to
help clients embrace the holistic view of medicine that has
been with humans for thousands of years, and begin to view
themselves as multidimensional beings of unlimited growth
and healing potential.”
Mary Hornish received a B.A. in liberal
arts with highest honors from Duke University. She has
spent the last four years working intensively with an energy
healer/holistic nurse healer and intuitive counselor while
completing coursework in energy medicine, intuitive
guidance, and complementary healing therapies. In addition,
she is a certified Reiki practitioner, and has completed
Reiki Level 2 training, a laying-on-of-hands healing
therapy. Mary works with both adults and children, and as a
mother of a special needs child, she has a particular
sensitivity and interest in working with children with
developmental differences.

Hornish, please call 410-880-4215, and press 0 for the

Elaine Trogdon,
M.D. - General Pediatrician
Dr. Trogdon is a general pediatrician with an integrative
medicine approach to healing. She is interested in all
general pediatric problems, particularly asthma, allergies,
GI disorders, headaches, behavior issues and ADHD. She uses
her Western medicine training to lay the foundation for a
broader, more integrative approach to these problems in
order to promote the best possible health for the child.
“I believe that the best way to
optimize a child’s well-being is by evaluating that child in
the broader context of his or her physical, social,
psychological, and emotional health. This must be done with
the physician, child and family working together in a
partnership toward the shared goal of optimal health. With
this as my foundation for patient care, I work to combine
the best possible treatment approaches from both traditional
western medicine and complementary therapies, based on the
patient’s unique characteristics and needs.”
Dr. Trogdon received her M.D. from the Medical College of
Virginia and completed her internship and residency at the
University of Maryland Medical Center. Her work experiences
have included inner city and multi-national clinics as well
as private practice. Her annual medical missions to an
impoverished village in Jamaica have added a whole new
dimension to her experience as a pediatrician. Prior to
beginning medical school, Dr. Trogdon worked at the
Georgetown University’s Department of Psychiatry Family
Center under the direction of Murray Bowen, M.D., family
psychiatrist and therapist. She participated in the
post-graduate training program in Family Theory and Therapy,
and was part of the Family Center’s Biofeedback Program,
using biofeedback training in working with individuals with
stress-related physical disorders. Dr. Trogdon is
board-certified in pediatrics. |
