Physical Therapy services at HeartLight Healing Arts are
available for pediatric patients with developmental delays,
weakness due to illness or pain, and difficulties with
walking and balance. Physical therapy sessions combine
traditional physical therapy techniques with complementary
therapies to work towards functional goals of independent
mobility, balance and walking. Adolescent and adult
patients are also seen to work on similar goals of increased
strength, balance and optimal outcomes for functional skills
and mobility.

Other indications that physical therapy is indicated are if
the child…
-
prefers one side of the body for reaching or standing
up,
-
is very floppy or soft when you lift them up,
-
has stiffness in the legs or arms when you move them,
-
stands only on the toes and does not come down to the
heels when walking,
-
turns the head to one side only,
-
stands with the legs crossed and is unable to uncross
them,
-
consistently falls
Physical Therapy at HeartLight Healing Arts offers
strengthening and stretching using yoga, movement, play and
therapeutic techniques. Massage is used to assist with
range of motion and body movement to improve the quality and
amount of movement, if it is limited. Gross motor
skills are assessed and worked on to help the child achieve
their mobility and optimal function for their age.
Walking instruction can be done for balance and stair
climbing.
CranioSacral
Therapy is a treatment offered that is soft and facilitates
releases and body responses that enhances the therapy
session. The Physical Therapist at HeartLight Healing Arts
works with the other specialists to coordinate, problem
solve and provide the optimal healing therapies for each
child.
