Cathleen J. McGrath, M.D. -
Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrician
EDUCATION:
Dr. McGrath graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in
Toledo, Ohio in 1987. From 1987-1990, Dr. McGrath completed
a Pediatric Residency at the University of Maryland Medical
Systems in Baltimore, MD and remained there from 1990-1993
for subspecialty training in Developmental and Behavioral
Pediatrics. Prior to medical school, Dr. McGrath completed
a Master’s Degree in Genetics.
Treatment Philosophy
Dr McGrath believes that each child and
family she sees is unique. She enjoys getting to know about
the child’s interests, special talents and personality while
evaluating the individual developmental and behavioral
challenges. Over the course of the evaluation she will help
you identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses, your
primary concerns, and your goals for your child. She will
help coordinate a medical, developmental, behavioral and
educational assessment and make recommendations for
treatment. Both the traditional and complementary treatment
options that are available will be considered.
Dr. McGrath believes that communication and teamwork are the
hallmarks of an effective medical practice and she will be
happy to communicate regularly with your child’s primary
care provider to insure good continuity of care.
Background and Experience
Upon completion of her fellowship in 1993, Dr. McGrath
joined a private pediatric practice on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland. In 1999 she relocated to Montgomery County, MD
and opened a consulting practice in Developmental and
Behavioral Pediatrics, and joined HeartLight Healing Arts in
2003. Dr. McGrath was a faculty member at the University of
Maryland Medical Systems from 2000-2006, seeing graduates of
the neonatal intensive care unit and she continues to see
the NICU graduates at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in
Rockville. She is also in part-time practice with a general
pediatric practice in Annapolis and sees patients for
developmental issues as well as providing well-child care
for children with special needs.
Dr. McGrath is board certified in General Pediatrics and
in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and is a Fellow of
the American Academy of Pediatrics. Although Dr. McGrath is
especially interested in working with children with Anxiety,
ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Cerebral Palsy, her
experience as a general pediatrician has given her the
opportunity to work with a wide array of developmental and
behavioral issues impacting all families, including sleep
disorders, temper tantrums, enuresis, encopresis and
learning problems.
