Pamela J. Compart, M.D.
Dr. Compart is a developmental
pediatrician who treats children with a variety of
behavioral and developmental disorders. She has a special
interest in treating children with autism spectrum
disorders. She performs comprehensive assessments and
provides ongoing treatment, combining both traditional and
complementary medicine approaches in treating these
disorders.
“I try to bring to each patient the
best of all that I have learned, whether from a traditional
or complementary medicine perspective. Part of each
evaluation includes two fundamental questions:
-
Is this
child’s brain getting all that it needs to function
optimally? and
-
Is there something getting to this child’s
brain that is having a negative impact on its functioning?
These simple questions can lead to a variety of very elegant
treatment interventions (therapy, diet changes, nutritional
supplements, etc.) which often result in significant
improvement in brain functioning. I believe that the
children I see have wonderful gifts hidden within their
challenges and that my role is to help bring these gifts to
light. My goal is to help children reach their potential
and have the best quality of life possible. This is
achieved by a true partnership with parents whose input is
essential and valued.”
Dr. Compart received her medical degree
from Case Western Reserve University. She completed a
pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center in
Washington, D.C. and fellowship training in behavioral and
developmental pediatrics at the University of Maryland
School of Medicine. After practicing in a variety of
hospital and outpatient settings, she founded HeartLight
Healing Arts in November 2001, bringing together like-minded
and “like-hearted” practitioners to work in a truly
integrated and caring environment.
