A current focus of research
and treatment in autism spectrum disorders is an effort to subtype children in
order to define different types of autism. This may lead to more tailored
recommendations for treatment of different subtypes. Research in this area is
ongoing but it will takes years for data to be collected and analyzed. In an
effort to try to get this information to parents so that it can be used
clinically now, Dr. Sidney Baker, a world-renowned expert in functional medicine
and the co-founder of the Defeat Autism Now! movement, has developed a unique
computer program.
This program is called
Autism360. It is available to parents free of charge. It allows parents to
enter data on their child, in as much detail as is possible, and then ask the
program to find other children who are most like their child. Parents can see
what treatments were felt to be helpful for children who are similar to their
own. These treatments can then be discussed with the child’s treating
physician. Data is entered anonymously and securely.
To access the program and
get further information, please go to
www.autism360.org. Currently, over 3500
children from around the world are entered into the database. The more children
who are entered, the more likely you will be to find closer matches to your
child. We are especially asking parents whose children have done numerous
treatments to enter their data, as this makes the data more robust and
comprehensive.
